Damrock Farm was lucky enough to share the last year of life with a grand gentleman. Rhythm and Blues, known to those who loved him as "Joey", arrived at our farm In September, 2011. The quintessential "gentle giant", Joey was a Belgian Warmblood gelding and one of the most personable characters I have met in my nearly 50 years of dealing with horses. He had lots of issues, which included among other things, shivers (a neurologic disease), a history of colic and ulcers, suspensory problems, the list goes on. Through it all he remained, to his very last moments, a sweet and loving guy. He talked to everyone who walked into the barn, begging for carrots and peppermints and never became cross or disagreeable, even on his worst days. I will miss him greatly. REST IN PEACE, BIG MAN, YOU DESERVE IT. |
